OMG! I had no idea that even some of the comparatively recent ones were that far gone.

The only one of these that I’ve seen before is the WWI Navy poster you use for your feature image. Ironically it’s probably the least worst, and capable of being read both ways to some extent. There a long history of young women bored with old-time social constraints joining up to see the world dressed as men, which is probably one reason why soldiers and sailors ended up getting medicals at some point. Before that, the subterfuge would be uncovered if they got wounded. Only if you were a pirate could you be openly a woman, as some pirates were.

Now, as I say, I don’t think you can read any of the other ads both ways.
