The only thing I can't quite figure out about TMT is why such timeless ancient wisdom about ego-taming, of which the most well known sort right now is probably the Buddhist variety though it would have been just as familiar to the Greeks and Romans, warrants a new and scientific-sounding name ;-). Or maybe I just haven't had it explained in enough detail as yet.
For surely, also, the idea that the permanent artifacts of civilisation, from mathematical proofs to Baroque cathedrals made of stone, are a salve for our own impermanence, which I have also heard to be one of the key findings of TMT, is itself a journalistic commonplace. As the hymn goes, "Change and decay in all around I see, O Thou who changest not, abide with me."
