Unfortunately along with SARS Mk 1 and MERS among people there are also some scary coronavirus syndromes in the animal kingdom, such as Feline Infectious Peritonitis which is the feline equivalent of long Covid except that the cat dies in every single case, apparently: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_infectious_peritonitis . This is the worry about "it'll be OK once it turns into the cold" scenario and why elimination should be the goal, however difficult now. We really don't know how many ways this ball might bounce.
