Years ago somebody else did a study of the lifestyles of the rich, and I remember this person saying that the poor are endlessly scrutinised by sociologists — whence the wry expression “a sociologist’s paradise” for some troubled housing estate — but that academics very seldom get past rich people’s gates. So, keep up the good work of adding to this neglected field. PS a lot of the scenic bits of New Zealand where I live are pretty barbellised too. People like Peter Thiel who think they can escape popular opprobrium by escaping to New Zealand really are just moving from one Jackson’s Hole to another.
